Whaley (Wain) Wainwright Winborne, Jr., 64, of Belleville, IL, passed away at his home on
Thursday September 22, 2022. Wain was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on October 9, 1957, to
Whaley Wainwright Winborne, Sr and Margaret Bennett Winborne, nee Hutchins, and they
precede him in death. Wain was also preceded in death by his brother, Michael Thomas
Huggins.
Wain’s or Whaley’s world was a Kaleidoscope... His beloved dogs: Lou C., Biscuit and Missy,
snorkeling with Manatee, Ganapati, caring for orphaned animals, hugs from Amma, Krisna Das
chanting, his Tempur-Pedic bed, electronics, Sherpa the dog on YouTube, holding hands,
laughter, caring for others during times of illness, Mustang Magic, his other boyfriend the IPad,
being outdoors until an insect landed on him, the ocean, spelunking, kayaking, camping, Virginia
Beach, Edgar Cayce Headquarters, NYC, Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountain
National Park, Zion, Sugar and Salt, Yellowstone, the bear and moose, Buffalo, the Cardinals,
the Blues, non-violence, the giant tv in the bedroom, his boyhood memories, his brothers, riding
in the car with a hand upon his knee, growing tomatoes, complicated recipes, throwing pottery,
collecting tools, taking things apart to see how they worked, He Truly Loved His Oncology
Team, the time he hang-glided a mile high, the dried cod his mother made for breakfast, his
Segway, photography, wonder and curiosity, his namesake goats, his mother singing to him,
sleeping in the bathtub, kisses, the amazing friends who enriched his life, cared for and nourished
him and LOVING.

Guide your way on.
Left to cherish his memory is his partner, Michael Patrick Elliff, his brother, Robert Howard
Bartel (Nell Frances Bartel), his sister-in-law, Dixie Neal Huggins, his nephews, Jason Ross
Dorsey, Steven Thomas Huggins and Eric Lee Huggins in addition to extended family and
countless beloved friends.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, 305 S. Illinois St., Belleville, IL 62220
