Walter Earl Leutzinger of New Athens, Illinois, formerly of Waterloo, Illinois and Festus, Missouri, passed away peacefully at the New Athens Home for the Aged in New Athens, Illinois, where he received excellent care, on Monday, April 10, 2017, having attained the age of 84 years, 4 months and 2 days.
Born in Pevely, Missouri on December 8, 1932, he was the son of Robert and Josephine Leutzinger, nee Dickerson. He was united in marriage to Patricia Leutzinger on September 10, 1955 at Assumption Catholic Church in Herculaneum, Missouri and she survives his passing.
Walter was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War, a drill pressman for National Vendors and was of the Catholic faith.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were his children, Dwayne (Brenda) Leutzinger and Mary (Gerald) Becker; his brothers, Luther (Louise) Leutzinger, George (Pauline) Leutzinger, Thornton (Yitty) Leutzinger and Emory Leutzinger in childhood; his sisters, Roberta (Bill) Lucas, Alice (Earl) Carroll, Grace (Clarence) Schaak and Hazel (Glenn) Love and his granddaughter, Katie Leutzinger.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Leutzinger of Waterloo, Illinois; his children, Jayne (Allen) Rickard of Millstadt, Illinois, Kurt Leutzinger of St. Louis, Missouri and Randall Leutzinger of Troy, Alabama; his grandchildren, Shannon Leutzinger of Alabama, Patricia (John Bievenue) Becker of Waterloo, Illinois, Sydney Leutzinger of Springfield, Missouri, Lisa Becker of Festus, Missouri and Sarah Becker of Belleville, Illinois; his step-grandchildren, Michael Becker, Danny Becker, both of Kentucky, Bobbi Becker of Bonne Terre, Missouri and Jimmy Becker of Kentucky; his great -grandchildren, Ty Michael Beivenue of Waterloo, Illinois and Anna Josephine Gerstner of Festus, Missouri; his brother, John Leutzinger of Festus, Missouri, nieces, nephews and many friends.
The family would also like to thank Hospice of Southern Illinois for their loving care.

Friends may call on Monday, April 17, 2017 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia, Illinois.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia, Illinois with Father Carl Scherer officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
The Creason Funeral Home in Millstadt, Illinois is in charge of arrangements.
