Born on July 2, 1923 in Millstadt Township, St. Clair County, Illinois, she was the daughter of Joseph and Johanna Hankammer, nee Jacobi.
Virginia was employed in the bakery at Stix, Baer and Fuller and was a member of St. James Catholic Church, St. James Conference of Catholic Women, American Legion Auxiliary Post #502 of which she was the president for the past 37 years and a member for 73 years. a past president, Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post #7980 Auxiliary, the Ursuline Club of Belleville and the Over 50 Club of St. James Catholic Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers, Herbert Hankammer and Clarence Hankammer.
Surviving are cousins and many friends.
Friends may call on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and on Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 9:00 A.M. to 9:45 A.M. at the Creason Funeral Home in Millstadt, Illinois. The rosary will be recited on Wednesday at 4:00 P.M. An American Legion Auxiliary service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be made in the form of masses or to St. James Parish Center and will be received at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, Illinois with Monsignor Marvin Volk officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery in Millstadt, Illinois.
