Virginia Mae Flynn

Virginia Mae Flynn, nee Metz, 84, of Freeburg, IL, passed away on Saturday July 13, 2024, in Belleville, IL. She was born on June 30, 1940, in Columbus, OH to Edward C. and Mary A. (Bothman) Metz and her parents precede her in death. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sherial Whitton, her brother, Carl Metz and her sisters: Kathleen Rhodes, Dorothy Curtis and Carolyn Sue Williams.

 

Virginia was born in Columbus, OH and the family then moved to National City, IL where she and her siblings were raised. Virginia would later marry and move to Cahokia, IL where she would raise her children in her loving home. Virginia was employed as a valued and trusted cashier for her entire career. 

 

In her spare time, Virginia loved to play horseshoes. She was so good at horseshoes that she attainted the status of Class A Illinois State Champion. She also loved playing Yahtzee and Uno with family and friends. She was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals Fan and loved watching wrestling on Monday and Friday nights. To relax, she could often be found coloring and working crossword puzzles. Most of all, Virginia enjoyed spending time with her family at gatherings and special events. She will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, grandmother and dear friend to many.

 

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Cathy Mahan of Granite City, IL, Donna Reynolds of Freeburg, Marshall (Mary) Flynn also of Freeburg, IL and Sean (Amber) Flynn of Dupo, IL; 13 grandchildren and many beloved great-grandchildren in addition to extended family and beloved friends.

 

Visitation will be held on Saturday July 20, 2024, from 11:00am-1:00pm at Hoffen Funeral Home, 220 W. Washington St., Millstadt, IL. Funeral service will follow at 1:00pm with Rev. Larry Ridenour, presiding. Cremation will follow.
