Vernon Linnemann of Millstadt, Illinois passed away on Friday, November 14, 2008 at his home having attained the age of 83 years.

Born in Columbia, Illinois on October 15, 1925, he was the son of John and Louise (Masur) Linnemann. He married Melba Hettenhausen on April 20, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Millstadt.

Mr. Linnemann was a retired mail carrier having served for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Millstadt Gun Club, Millstadt Commercial Club, VFW Post 7980 and the American Legion. Vernon served God and his church as an Elder of the Trinity Lutheran Church and past president of the Board of Elders and as Superintendent of the Sunday School. He served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy. Vernon was also the founder of Millstadts 32 year tradition 'The Display of Independence'.

Preceding him in death besides his parents were a brother, Elmer Linnemann and a sister, Florence Horcher.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Melba; three sons, Stephen (Peggy) Linnemann of Bonner Springs, Kansas, John (Joyce) Linnemann and Mark (Letitia) Linnemann of Millstadt; one sister, Elsie Hermann of Waterloo; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Millstadt and will be received at the funeral home.
Friends may call at the Creason Funeral Home, 220 West Washington Street, Millstadt from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 16, 2008 and from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. on Monday, November 17 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Millstadt.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 17, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Millstadt. Burial will follow at Lake View Memorial Garden Cemetery, Fairview Heights with the Rev. Michael Kumm officiating.
