Vera Obernuefemann
Vera Obernuefemann, of Belleville, Illinois, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 16 days at Sycamore Village. Vera was born March 13, 1924, in Lebanon, the daughter of Edwin and Ida, nee Rock, Dressel.
She grew up in Summerfield and graduated from Lebanon High School. Vera was a vibrant and loving woman, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her life was filled with challenges of many kinds and she met each and every one positively and creatively. She married Louis E. Obernuefemann on October 3, 1942. After high school she taught in a one room school, worked in a factory in World War II, and spent many years being a professional seamstress. She was the owner of The Cameo Beauty Salon. After the death of Louis, Vera went to college to earn both bachelors and masters degrees in education and counseling from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. She taught at Althoff High School and was a guidance counselor at SAVE. In retirement, she did many hours of substitute teaching with all grades but her heart special education department. She also volunteered at a local thrift shop for years. She always wanted to help those who needed aid.
Veras heart was always with her family. She valued family and education. She encouraged and promoted many of her family and students to achieve high educational values. She was proud that her family members shared five Ph.D.s and a Juris Doctorate. She was an encourager, motivator, and supporter for her family in all ways.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father and her brothers, Elton and Wayne Dressel.
Vera is survived by a daughter Donna (Daniel) Leininger, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and a son Louis E (Alycia) Obernuefemann, of Belleville, Illinois, She had six grandchildren, Matthew Leininger, of Richmond, Virginia, Rachel (Brett) Schweers, of Chicago, Illinois, Christina (Dave) Saam, of Champaign, Illinois, Jessica Obernuefemann, of Springfield, Illinois, David Clancy of Saint Louis, Missouri, and Daniel Clancy of Belleville, Illinois; three great-grandchildren, Owen and Louis Schweers and Bentley Clancy.
