Ruth Stella Speichinger, nee Kreher, 93, of Millstadt, IL, passed away peacefully on Thursday December 26, 2024. Ruth was born on March 27, 1931, in Prairie du Long Township, IL to Edward and Mathilda (Maurer) Kreher and her parents precede her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Speichinger, son-in-law, Wayne Lanter, her father and mother-in-law, Mathias and Cecelia Speichinger, her brothers: Clyde Kreher, Bertram Kreher and Joe Kreher, her sisters: Cecelia (Art) Schaefer, Ethel (Fred) Voegele, Marie (John) Mueth, Esther (Edmund) Eckart and Estelle (Victor) Mueth; her brothers and sisters-in-law: Arlene (Anthony) Neff, Roy Speichinger, Leo Speichinger, Marilyn Haudrich and William Speichinger.
Ruth and her late husband, Robert raised their family in Millstadt, IL. In their younger years, she and Robert loved to go out on Saturday nights and dance. Ruth was a devoted wife and mother who worked tirelessly to create a loving home for her family. She had many hobbies including quilting, crocheting, flower gardening and baking. She was devout in her Catholic faith and was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the St. James CCW. When her grandchildren came along, Ruth cherished all the time she spent with them creating happy memories that they will carry with them forever. Ruth will be remembered for her kindness and unconditional love for her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Patty (Alfred) Schilling, Karen (Dale) Vasquez and Melvin (Julie) Speichinger; her brother-in-law, Orville (the late Marilyn) Haudrich, sisters-in-law: Anna Mae (the late Clyde) Kreher, Ethel Mae (the late Bertram) Kreher and Alice (the late Leo) Speichinger; her grandchildren: Kirk (Jennifer) Schilling, Kory Schilling, Andrew (Ashley) Vasquez, Kaitlin (Aaron) Floarke and Kellie (Brian) Dayton; her great-grandchildren: Rebecca Williams, Payton Schilling, Preston Schilling, Oaklee Vasquez, Louie Vasquez, Grayson Floarke, Beckett Floarke, Brynleigh Dayton and Blayke Dayton in addition to her extended family and many beloved friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Hill Nursing Home Memory Care Unit in Waterloo, IL for the exceptional care and dedication shown to Ruth during her time there.
Visitation will be held on Sunday December 29, 2024, from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Hoffen Funeral Home, 220 W. Washington St., Millstadt, IL. On Monday December 30, 2024, visitation will be held at St. James Catholic Church, 405 W. Madison St., Millstadt, IL from 9:00am-10:00am, Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am with Fr. Andrew Knopik and Fr. Patrick Peter, co-officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery in Millstadt, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. James Catholic School and will be collected at the funeral home and the church.
