Robert Harry Raymond "Bob" Scharf of Millstadt, IL, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on May 29, 2024, in San Antonio, TX. Born on February 24, 1943, Bob lived his entire life on the family farm in Millstadt, IL, a legacy that has spanned over 175 years.
Bob enjoyed working and spending time on the farm, Cardinals baseball, fishing, hunting, softball, and a good cheeseburger. As a lifelong resident of Millstadt, he was a member of the Millstadt Commercial Club and a charter member of the Millstadt Ambulance Service. He treasured time with his family and a large circle of friends who all eagerly anticipated his annual July 4th gatherings.
He was a man of integrity, with simple tastes, and resourcefulness. Generous to others and asking little for himself, Bob was a loving father, grandfather, and friend to many. His gentle, quiet, and kind presence will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Lee Scharf; his father, Edwin Scharf; his mother, Bertha Reichert Scharf; his brother, Herbert Scharf; and his niece, Cindy Shull. He is survived by his children: daughter Melissa (Jim) Helfrich of Millstadt, IL, and their children Brett, Jordan, Ryan, and Taylor; son Robert (Natalie Cunningham) Scharf of Winslow, AR, and their children Max and Maya; daughter Barbara (Robert) Palmer of San Antonio, TX, and their children Christin, Victoria (Alex) Mattmann, Amelia, Maggie, and great-grandson Holden Mattmann; and son TJ (Shannon Phillips) Scharf of Miami, FL. He is also survived by his sister Marilyn (Larry) Shull of Waterloo, IL, his nephew, Kevin Shull of Waterloo, IL, and his first wife and the mother of his children, Marsha Beyer Scharf.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Bob's caregivers and friends who contributed to the quality of his life in his final years.
A graveside service and celebration of life will be held at Mount Evergreen Cemetery, Millstadt, IL. On Friday, July 5th, 2024 at 9:30 am. Instead of flowers, donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
Bob's life was a testament to the virtues of family, hard work, kindness, and the joy found in simple pleasures. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
