Robert G. Walker, 91, of Millstadt, IL, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday January 18, 2024. Bob was born on May 27, 1932, in East St. Louis, IL to Lyman and Pearl (Johnston) Walker and his parents precede him in death. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 74 years, Carol (Quevreaux) Walker in addition to his sons; Donald Gene Walker and Gary Ray Walker and all 13 of his siblings.
Bob was a very hard-working man and was a devoted provider for his family through the years. He spent of his adult career employed by Hunter Packing Company as a truck driver. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed being a “shade tree” mechanic, operating CB radios, collecting train sets, and he was known as a great cook. He was very social and could be described as someone who never met a stranger. He was naturally kindhearted and was always talking, laughing and smiling. Bob had a selfless, giving heart and was very fond of his nieces and nephews. Bob lost all of his siblings at young ages, so he became a father figure to his nieces and nephews, leading to them describing him as their favorite uncle. Family was the central focus of Bob’s life, and his greatest joy was the time he spent with them. Bob will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Sherry (Tom) Simpson and Kathy (Mark) Schlemmer, Vicki Valentine who was like a daughter to him, David Walker who was like a son to him; his grandchildren: Michael Walker, Brandi (James) Duggar, Shelly Anderson, Misty Coleman, Shane (Angie) Betlach, Shawn Helfrich, Bob (Alissa) Helfrich, Stephanie (Chris) French and Abbey Walker; his great-grandchildren: Corissa Duggar, Laura and Taylor Kern, Jillian and Justin Guest, Lindsay Kunkle, B.J. Vance, Alexis Johnson, Sydney Ditzler, Lester French, Chad and Aidan Betlach and his great-great-grandchildren: Aubrey and Logan, in addition to many nieces, nephews, extended family and beloved friends.
