Robert Donald Lovelace
Robert Donald Lovelace Sr. of St. Louis, Missouri entered eternal rest on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at St. Anthonys Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, comforted by his family at his side. Bob attained the age of 80 years, 10 months and 13 days.
Bob was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 27, 1932 as the son of William and Dorothy Lovelace (Ackcel). He lived in South St. Louis his entire civilian life.
After graduating from Cleveland high school in 1952, Bob entered the service and served as a Military Policeman for eight years of active, guard & reserve duty and attained the rank of staff sergeant. By all accounts, he was a "Soldiers Soldier" and was truly loyal to his duty and proud of his county.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life Betty Rego on July 19, 1958 in St. Louis. Betty and their children Bob (Jr.) and Michael, and his grandchildren Matthew & Katie were the pride of his life. Family time and the joy & comfort of his family were his priorities.
Bob served as a scout leader for his sons and served as the president of the board of education at his sons school.
He worked as an electrician for his early career and then became involved in appliance repair & sales later on and retired from Johnstone Appliance parts in 1997. In his retirement, the "Silverfox" enjoyed the outdoors very much so; nature walks with his wife, camping and fishing with his children, and backyard squirrel hunting. He also enjoyed gardening and always maintained a beautiful yard. He once won the "Largest Tomato" contest at a local nursery.
Bob enjoyed fixing things and was an excellent craftsman; building several useful gadgets around the house and creating many Rube Goldbergs as well, including the basement door opening and spilling a bucket of water on the dog contraption.
God made Bob very special. Considered funny and having a great sense of humor, he was known well everywhere he ventured. Bob will be missed by many.
Preceding him in death were his parents. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Betty Lovelace of St. Louis, Missouri; his sons, Robert D. (Norah) Lovelace of Affton, Missouri and Michael J. Lovelace of Shrewsbury, Missouri; his brother, William (Zelda) Lovelace of Affton, Missouri; his sister, Shirlee Hrica of California; his grandchildren, Matthew Lovelace of Affton, Missouri and Katherine Lovelace of St. Charles, Missouri; his nephew, William (Dee) Lovelace of St. Louis, Missouri; his niece, Mallory (Boyd) Bassham of Dallas, Texas, cousins and many friends.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 2:30 P.M. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri with Rev. Christopher Peterson officiating.
There will be a time of remembrance and wake at his son Bobs house for family, friends and acquaintances commencing at 4pm on Friday. Mourners and supporters are welcome anytime that evening.
