Nina Mae Volkmar of Granite City, Illinois, formerly of Pocahontas, Illinois, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016 at the Fountain View Manor Nursing Home in Granite City, Illinois, having attained the age of 83 years, 5 months and 3 days.
Born on November 23, 1932 in Pocahontas, Illinois, she was the daughter of Howard F. and Iola Mae Clayton, nee Hussey. She was united in marriage to Walter Volkmar on February 17, 1951 in Carbondale, Illinois and he preceded her in death on October 4, 2013.
Mrs. Volkmar was a retail clerk and member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Granite City, Illinois.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Walter Volkmar and her brother, Morris P. Clayton.
Surviving are her children, Carol Ann (Gary) Sturdivant of Granite City, Illinois and Forrest Alan "Butch" Volkmar of Worden, Illinois; her grandchildren, Chris (Hollie) Sturdivant and Greg Sturdivant and three great-grandchildren, Emma Sturdivant, Will Sturdivant and Evelyn "Evie" Sturdivant.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful staff and residents of Fountain View Memory Manor in Granite City, who loved and cared for Nina.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice in Fairview Heights, Illinois, any Animal Rescue or an organization of the donor's choice.

Friends may call on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon at the Thomas Saska Funeral Home, 2205 Pontoon Road, Granite City, Illinois.

A memorial service will follow at 12:00 noon at the funeral home.
