Mary Elizabeth Stangle, nee Wies, 88, of New Baden, Illinois passed away peacefully on April 11, 2019 at St. Elizabeths Hospital in OFallon, Illinois.
Born on June 29, 1930 in Newburgh, New York, she was the daughter of Martin and Mary Wies, nee Leonard. Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband of forty years, Melvin Eugene Stangle, Sr. whom she married in New York, her second husband, George Bertelsman, brother John Wies and a step-brother, Buddy Decker.
Mary is survived by her six children: Melvin E. Stangle, Jr. (Teresa) of Belleville, Illinois, Mary Miller (Steve) also of Belleville, Illinois, Michael Stangle (Carole) of St. Peters, Missouri, John Stangle (Laura) of Goodfield, Illinois, James Stangle (Teri) of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Jacob Stangle (Wanda) of Trenton, Illinois. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary worked for many years as a nursing assistant and enjoyed her position as a caretaker. She also loved spending time with her friends and cherished her time with her family. She will be laid to rest in honor with her husband Melvin at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association in her name.
A celebration of Marys life is being planned for a later date.
