Marvel G. Otten

Marvel Gene Otten, 78, of Waterloo, IL, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2024. Marvel was born on September 2, 1945, in East St. Louis, IL to Leroy and Billea (Hack) Otten and his parents precede him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son, Terry Otten, and his brothers: Roy “Sonny” Otten and Gerry Otten.

Marvel worked in auto supplies for many years and enjoyed his work. He loved being outside and working on cars. In his later years, he enjoyed feeding and caring for his cows and riding his tractor. He will be remembered as a loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and dear friend to many.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Donna (Keith) Washausen and Gene (Kim) Otten; his siblings: David (Ellen) Otten and Rosalie (Allen) Kern; his grandchildren: Jessica (Russell) Brafford, Nicolas (Nikki) Otten, Kasey (Jack) Kemper and Emma Otten; his great-grandchildren: Shea Brafford, Evelyn Brafford, Russell Brafford, Alivia Otten and Cheyenne Otten and girlfriend Teresa Rusteberg in addition to many nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.

Graveside service will be held on Friday March 22, 2024 at 1:30pm at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, 3412 Frank Scott Parkway West, Belleville, IL, with Reverend Matt Friz officiating. The funeral procession will depart Hoffen Funeral Home in Millstadt, IL at 1:10pm sharp.

Memorial contributions in memory of Marvel G. Otten may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
