Marilynne E. Gornet

April 18, 1929 — June 14, 2023

Marilynne Elizabeth Kruse Gornet was called home on June 14, 2023, joining her beloved

husband of 61 years, the late E. Donald Gornet.


Devoted and creative, her enduring love for her family defined her life. She was imaginative,

intelligent, curious, and resourceful; her family parties and decorated cakes were extraordinary.

Loving mother of Anne Gornet (Daniel) Kapp, Lois Gornet (Mike) Hilgers, Ruth (Bill) Gornet-

Irwin and Mary Gornet (Steve) Avila; caring mother-in-law of Theresa Barnum Gornet;

cherished grandmother of Rachel (Joe) Gornet-Brooks and Leah Gornet; William (Theresa),

Katherine (Alejandro), and Elizabeth Kapp; Abigail and Benjamin Hilgers; James and Jeremy

Irwin; Luke, Hannah and Mark Avila; great-grandmother of Annabelle Rose Kapp.

Predeceased by treasured son Mark, infant son Luke and older brother, Paul. She was a devoted

daughter to her parents, the late Arthur and Mary Kruse. She leaves many nieces, nephews,

friends, and much extended family.


Marilynne was born in St. Louis on April 18, 1929. She was baptized, confirmed, and married

at Hope Lutheran Church. She attended Gardenville Elementary School and Cleveland High

School and was a 1950 graduate of Washington University, a member of Alpha Chi Omega.

She was employed as a delineator and draftsman with architectural firms until the birth of her

son. She taught Sunday School at Hope, Emmaus, and served as Sunday School superintendent

at Peace Lutheran Church. She was active in Scouting for 15 years, as Cub Scout, Den Mother

and Girl Scout Leader. She traveled the world with her husband, exploring all seven continents.

She enjoyed designing, dressmaking, and needlework, making numerous quilts and toys.


Graveside Service 11:00 AM Monday, July 3 - St Trinity Cemetery, 2160 Lemay Ferry Rd. St.

Louis, 63125. Celebration of Life Immediately Following.


Memorials may be made to Lutheran North in Marilynne’s name.
