Marilyn Massey, nee Chaklos, 71, of Millstadt, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday June 1, 2024. Marilyn was born on January 8, 1953, in East St. Louis, IL to George and Emily Chaklos, nee Stolba, and her parents precede her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Chaklos.
In her early years, Marilyn worked as a car hop waitress at A&W Root Beer in East St. Louis, IL. While working one day, she met her future husband, Alan D. Massey. Alan and Marilyn were married on September 9, 1972, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Belleville, IL. They soon began their family and Marilyn began her career. She first worked in medical records at a physician’s office in the Central West End of St. Louis. Marilyn then attended Maryville University in St. Louis and graduated with her MBA. Later, she taught medical records programming at various nursing homes. Finally, she became the Health Information Manager at St. Louis Children's Hospital until she retired.
Marilyn loved the St. Louis Cardinals and she and Alan held season tickets for 22 years. In her spare time, she loved to travel and had a love of reading mystery and true crime novels. Marilyn loved her family and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. Marilyn was an active member of St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt for many years and was known for always preparing delicious food for funeral meals. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend to many.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 51 years, Alan D. Massey; her children: Amy (Chris) Kennedy and Chris (Jami) Massey; her brothers: Richard Chaklos and Tom Chaklos; her grandchildren: Quinn Kennedy, Leann Singer-German, Elijah Massey, Xavier Massey and Olivia Massey in addition to extended family and many beloved friends.
Memorial visitation will be held at St. James Catholic Church, 405 W. Madison St., Millstadt, IL on Saturday June 8, 2024, from 10:00am-11:00am. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am with Msgr. Marvin Volk, officiating.
