Lysle Louise Steele
Lysle Louise Steele passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2008 at the Randolph County Care Center in Sparta at the age of 87 years.
Mrs. Steele was born on July 17, 1920 in East St. Louis, the daughter of Raymond and Elizabeth 'Elsie' (Ax) Wheatley. She was a lifelong resident of East St. Louis and Belleville until her retirement.
She was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church in New Athens, St. Teresa Academy Class of 1938, American Legion Auxiliary of Sparta, Macke Senior Center of Marissa, Quilters of St. Agathas Catholic Church and the Risdon Kitchen Band. She wrote the senior column for the Marissa newspaper.
Preceding her in death besides her parents, were one son, John Ray (Linda) Steele; two sisters, Doris Wheatley and Dorothy Jamison and two brothers, Raymond Wheatley and Vincent 'Bud' Wheatley.
Left to mourn her passing are her son, James R. (Norma) Steele of Marissa, two grandchildren, Jennifer (Jimmy) Lillard of Red Bud and Stephen (Susan) Owens of Cape Giarardeau, Missouri, two great-grandchildren, Jim Weston, Jr. and Weston Baird of Red Bud; four nephews, three nieces, many cousins, great-nieces and nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Agathas Catholic Church in New Athens with Rev. James M. Nall officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at 11:00 A.M.
There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made in the form of masses or to the Shrine Of Our Lady Of The Snows. Creason Funeral Home in Millstadt is in charge of arrangements.
