Leo Francis Dowling of St. Louis passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at St. Alexius Hospital in St. Louis at the age of 88 years.

Born on August 31, 1920 in Kewanee, Illinois, he was the son of Christopher N. and Catherine A. (Gipe) Dowling. Mr. Dowling was united in marriage to Elvadean Estelle (Haaser) Dowling on May 9, 1942 in St. Louis and she preceded him in death on September 17, 2008.
Mr. Dowling was a warehouseman with Admiral Merchants for more than twenty years. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army in World War II. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded two bronze stars. Mr. Dowling was a member of St. Stephen Protomartyr Catholic Church and CSMAC.

Mr. Dowling was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elvadean; and one brother, Bernard Dowling.
Left to mourn his passing are his children, Leo Dowling, Jr. of St. Louis and Patricia Vinyard of Kannapolis, North Carolina; three sisters, Lois C. Baker, Mary Rita Dowling and Rosemary Dowling of St. Louis; one brother, Alphonse Eugene (Mary) Dowling of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Derek Leftridge of St. Louis, Kristina Kamer, Roy Vinyard and Cody Vinyard of North Carolina and three great-grandchildren, Derek Leftridge II, Kyle Schuppan and Aidan Vinyard.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 26, 2008 at 12:00 Noon at St. Stephen Protomartyr Catholic Church with Father Ron Hopmeir officiating. Burial will follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday, September 26, 2008 from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon at the church. Memorials may be made to the church.
Southern Funeral Home, 6322 South Grand is in charge of arrangements.
