Kathryn S. Helfrich of Millstadt passed away on Friday, August 8, 2008 at St. Elizabeths Hospital in Belleville at the age of 85 years.

Born on August 26, 1922 in St. Louis, she was the daughter of John and Susanna (Seliga) Chagala. She married Richard Helfrich on December 12, 1945 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Centreville and he preceded her in death on October 13, 1990.

Mrs. Helfrich was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt and a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Centreville.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and her husband, Richard, were two brothers, John (Delores) Chagala and Joe Chagala; three sisters, Marie (Les) Brinker, Susie (Joe) Kovac and Anne (Mike) Kovac and one brother-in-law, Adam Embrich.

Left to mourn her passing are her children, Paul (Donna) Helfrich of Smithton, Donald Helfrich of Millstadt and Barb (Tom) Dahm of Belleville; one sister, Emily Embrich, three sisters-in-law, Pearl Chagala, Celia Helfrich and Rosie Helfrich; two brothers-in-law, Alvin Helfrich and Clarence Lickenbrock; five grandchildren, Christine (Dave) Bivens of Waterloo, Karen Helfrich of Evanston, Jen (Andy) Schutzenhofer, Mike Dahm and Chris Dahm of Belleville and three great-grandchildren, Jenna and Kelsey Bivens and Mya Schutzenhofer, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 11, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt with Father Marvin Volk officiating. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Centreville.

Friends may call on Sunday, August 10, 2008 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and Monday, August 11, 2008 from 9:00 A.M. to 9:45 A.M. at Creason Funeral Home, 220 West Washington Street, Millstadt. The rosary will be recited at 4:00 P.M. Memorials may be made in the form of masses or memorials to St. James Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
