Katherine A. St. John of Millstadt, Illinois passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at her home, having attained the age of 81 years, 10 months and 1 day.

Born in Hanna, Wyoming on May 26, 1929, she was the daughter of Anthony and Evangelia nee Vassilakis. She was united in marriage to Donald Reynolds St. John on March 2, 1957 in Denver, Colorado and he survives.

Katherine began her professional career as a nurse following service to scrap drives as a teenager during World War II. She relocated to Colorado after college, married and started a family in 1957. As a longtime resident of Marshall, Missouri, she served as a school nurse and generously donated her talents to the Girl Scouts, Swim Team and several community organizations.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister, Iris Callas and her brother, Nicolas Varvandakis.
Surviving are her husband, Donald R. St. John of Millstadt, Illinois; her children, Caroline Neal of Overland Park, Kansas, Susan (Glenn) Gumb of Overland Park, Kansas, Theresa St. John of Millstadt, Illinois and Michael St. John of Millstadt, Illinois; her sister, Peggy (Edgar) Smith of Laramie, Wyoming; her grandchildren, Anne Marie Neal and Katie Jo Gumb; her caregiver, Cindy Clements, her sister-in-law, Connie Gahagen of Columbis, California; several beloved nieces and nephews and many friends.

She owned no possessions other than honor and sowed no seeds other than love. Memorials in her name may be made at www.stsabina.org in Belton, Missouri.

Family and friends will leave the Creason Funeral Home in procession on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. for a graveside service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri with Monsignor Marvin Volk officiating.

The Creason Funeral Home in Millstadt, Illinois is in charge of arrangements.
