Joni Jean Kidwell

Joni Jean Kidwell, nee Vogel, 66, formerly of Millstadt, IL, passed away on Friday August 23, 2024, in Marion, IL. Joni was born on March 8, 1958, in Belleville, IL to Vernon and Bernice (Schmitz) Vogel and her parents precede her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Bryan Boide.

Joni grew up in Millstadt, IL and later moved to Belleville, IL where she would start her family. She raised her children in a loving home as a stay-at-home mother. In her spare time, she loved to read, work crossword puzzles, paint, work latch hook projects and to play cards with her mother at the kitchen table. She also loved to watch wrestling on television and to cheer on her favorite St. Louis Cardinals. Holidays were special to Joni, and she worked very hard to make them special for her children and family. She loved Christmas and took great care to ensure her children had lots of presents and that special memories were made every year. 

Joni loved music and filled her home with classic country songs throughout her life. In her later years, she discovered a love of horseback riding and hiking. She was a lifelong animal lover and a woman of strong faith. Joni will be remembered as a devoted and loving mother, sister and grandmother and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Tiffany (Michael) Reeser of Lebanon, IL, Sarah Simonson (John Huellinghoff) of Union, MO, Jason (Karen) Boide of Belleville, IL and Angela Boide (Craig Province) of Taylor Springs, IL; her siblings: Don (Beckie) Vogel of Millstadt, IL and Margie Mees of Belleville, IL; her grandchildren: Jacob Reeser, Noah Reeser, Bradley Simonson, Lora Simonson, Brooke Boide, Savannah Boide, Chase Boide and Jessica Kidwell, in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday August 30, 2024, from 4:00pm-8:00pm at Hoffen Funeral Home, 220 W. Washington St., Millstadt, IL. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home or at www.stjude.org.
