John Ervin Taylor, Jr.

John Ervin Taylor, Jr. of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, formerly of St. Louis entered eternal rest on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. He had attained the age of 86 years, 3 months and 17 days.

Born on July 23, 1923 in Loretta, Tennessee, he was the son of the late John Ervin and Odessa (Springer) Taylor, Sr. He married Mattie May on June 10, 1942 and she preceded him in death on November 25, 2002.

Mr. Taylor was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theatres and at the Battle of the Bulge. He received an associate degree in accounting from St. Louis University and was the financial officer in charge of the building of the first Busch Stadium and surrounding properties. He was the Senior Vice-President and Treasurer of The Civic Center Redevelopment Corporation from 1962 to 1992. Mr. Taylor moved from St. Louis to the Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau in 2006.
Survivors include his daughters, Connie Taylor of St. Louis, Johnnie (Ross) Doyel of Henderson, Nevada; one brother, A. D. (Marge) Taylor of Long Beach, Mississippi; one sister, Barbara (Norman) Martin of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and three grandchildren, Patricia Doyel, John Ross Doyel and Eric Doyel of Henderson, Nevada.

Friends may call on Thursday, November 12, 2009 from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and on Friday, November 13, 2009 from 10 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. at the John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Home, 4830 Lemay Ferry Road in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to the Activities Department of the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 11:30 A.M. at the John L. Ziegenhein and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Ross Doyel officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis with full military honors at the graveside.
Southern Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
