Joan M. Fishbein

Joan M. Fishbein, nee Portman, 93 of Millstadt, IL, passed away on Saturday March 23, 2024. Joan was born on June 3, 1930, in New Athens, IL to Jacob and Bertha Portman, nee Schmelzel and her parents precede her in death. She was also preceded in death by her cousin Dora Hummert.

Joan attended Point Lookout School, a one room schoolhouse in her early years, and later graduated from New Athens High School, class of 1948. She then worked for 50 years as a beautician. She was a past member of the Belleville Moose Club, the American Businesswomen’s Association and the Belleville Women’s Club. She also volunteered with Belleville Memorial Hospital’s Auxiliary. Joan will be remembered as a devoted, loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and dear friend of many.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Harry (Norma) Fishbein, James (Mona) Fishbein, her brother William (the late Betty) Portman, her grandchildren: Jacob (Sara) Fishbein, Emily Fishbein, Shelley (Josh) Bradley and Anna (Matt) McCarty, her great-grandchildren: Lucas Fishbein, Will Fishbein, Wyatt Bradley, her cousin Allen Analla in addition to many nieces, nephews, extended family and beloved friends.
