James Patrick Causey, 74, of Millstadt, IL, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday August 27, 2024. He was born on June 10, 1950, in Bisbee, AZ to Patrick and Laura (Gibson) Causey and his parents precede him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother William Causey.
Jim grew up in Columbia, IL. He enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon his return from service, he began his employment with Norfolk Southern Railroad as a railroad policeman. He retired from Norfolk Southern as a sergeant. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and sitting in his John Deere shed. He also loved to barbeque and to spend time with his beloved dogs, Sam and Henry. Most important to Jim was his family and the time he spent with them and with his many friends. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, IL.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Shirley (Grau) Causey, whom he married on June 10, 1970, at St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, IL, his children: Jennifer (Matthew) Menees, Cheri (Brandon) Gravot, Jaime (Brian) Stoops and Billy Causey; his brother, Mike Causey; sister-in-law, Linda Causey; his grandchildren: Abbie (Billy Zimmerman) Menees, Lillie Menees, Molly Gravot, Jack Gravot, Eily Stoops, Elizabeth Stoops and Everett Stoops; and his great-grandchildren, Noah and Jaxson in addition to many nieces, nephews, extended family and beloved friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday August 30, 2024, from 6:00pm-9:00pm at St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday August 31, 2024, at St. James Catholic Church at 10:00am with Fr. Pat Peter, celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Paderborn, IL with military honors.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. James Catholic School or BJC Hospice and will be collected at the church.
