Herbert F. Scharf of Millstadt passed away on Friday, February 27, 2009 at Oak Hill Nursing Home in Waterloo. He was 68 years of age.

Born on February 27, 1941 in Belleville, he was the son of the late Edwin and Bertha (Reichert) Scharf.
Mr. Scharf was a farmer and a mechanic at Mertz Motor Company for 27 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in Vietnam, a member of Zion Evangelical Church, a lifetime member of St. Clair County Farm Bureau, the American Legion Post of Millstadt where he served as a past commander, Millstadt Commercial Club and was a Millstadt Township Trustee from 1985 to 2001.
Surviving are his brother, Robert (Dorothy) Scharf of Millstadt; his sister, Marilyn (Larry) Shull of New Athens; his nieces and nephews, Cindy (Kevin) Eack, Kevin (Ruth) Shull, Melissa (Jim) Helfrich, Barb (Robert) Palmer, Robert (Natalie) Scharf and T. J. Scharf; his great-nieces and nephews, Michelle Eack, Michael Eack, Ryan Shull, Aaron Shull, Brett Helfrich, Jordan Helfrich, Ryan Helfrich, Taylor Helfrich, Christin Palmer, Victoria Palmer, Amelia Palmer, Max Scharf and Maya Scharf; his aunt, Martha Albert; cousins and many friends.

Friends may call at the Creason Funeral Home on Monday, March 2, 2009 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. An American Legion service will be held at 7:00 P.M.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Zion Evangelical Church and will be received at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Zion Evangelical Church with Rev. Darrell Weber officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Evergreen Cemetery in Millstadt.
