Hazel R. Bennett

Hazel R. Bennett, 79 of Dupo, Illinois passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday January 16, 2020. Born on June 17, 1940 in Belleville, Illinois, she was the daughter of Ross E. and Henrietta L. Dixon, nee Eakle and they precede her in death.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Timothy Lewis of Dupo, Illinois, Christopher Lewis of Dupo, Illinois and Julie Lewis of Dupo, Illinois. Her siblings: Lawanda Moore of Columbia, Illinois, Floyd Dixon of Herculaneum, Missouri, Ronnie Dixon of Fults, Illinois and Linda (Sam) Brown of Mitchell, Illinois. Her grandchildren: Amy S. Smith of East Carondelet, Illinois, Tyler A. Smith of East Carondelet, Illinois, David L. Smith of East Carondelet, Illinois, Madison S. Smith of East Carondelet, Illinois and Khristine Smith of Cahokia, Illinois in addition to many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

Hazel worked for many years as a licensed cosmetologist and later as a bartender. She was a long-time member of the Cahokia American Legion and the Cahokia VFW. In her spare time she loved crocheting dolls and was an accomplished cake decorator. Most of all she loved spending time with her friends and family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service is being planned and details will be forthcoming.
