Harold L. Dayton, 77 of New Athens, Illinois passed away peacefully on Sunday October 13, 2019 surrounded by his family at New Athens Home for the Aged. Born on December 21, 1941 in East St. Louis, Illinois, he was the son of Harlan and Helen Dayton and they precede him in death. Harold was also preceded in death by his first wife, Doris (Riley) Dayton, sisters Clara Bates and Rosemarie Hunter and a son-in-law, Edward Richardson.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Patricia "Pat" Dayton of New Athens, Illinois, his children: Jeanette Richardson of Clarksville, Tennessee, Harlen (Zadonna) Dayton of Katy, Texas, Marie Williams (Mike Smith) of Tilden, Illinois, Lilia Dayton (Archie Gonzales) of Belleville, Illinois, Richard Paul (Angela) Dayton of Tilden, Illinois, Jessie Dayton of Lenzburg, Illinois, Alameda (Keith) Berke of Belleville, Illinois, Sheila (David) Skorcz of Lenzburg, Illinois, Margo Dayton (Bernard Steinheimer) of Red Bud, Illinois and Shana (David) Mesch of Lenzburg, Illinois. Harold is also survived by 31 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren.

Harold was a man who loved the outdoors. In his free time he could be found fishing and camping. He also loved cars. He would often buy cars, fix them up and re-sell them as a hobby. Harold loved to go "junkin" and spent a lot of quality time with his family hunting for treasures. Harold loved listening to country music, he was a great guitar and flute player.
