George Raymond Pappas, Sr., 79, of Belleville, IL passed away on Monday October 28, 2024. George was born in East St. Louis, IL on October 24, 1945, to James C. and Lynn (Krauss) Pappas, Sr. and his parents precede him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son, Pioquinto “PJ” Pappas and his brother, James C. Pappas, Jr.
George grew up in East St. Louis, IL and graduated from Assumption High School. After graduation, he began working at Famous-Barr in St. Louis where he met his future wife, Josephine Narvaez. They would later marry on June 30, 1979, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Fairmont City, IL and begin their family.
George was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus and the Our Lady of Guadalupe Society. He was a Chicago Cubs fan and loved fishing. Most important to George was his family and the time he spent with them. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 45 years, Josephine (Narvaez) Pappas, his children: George Pappas, Jr, Josephine Pappas and Sarah (Daniel) Kuehl; his grandchildren: Jazmine Jenkins, Deandre Jenkins, Jr., Isaiah Jenkins, Tonetta Jenkins, Ronald McCray, Joshua McCray, Kayla Kuehl, Derek Kuehl and Isaac Kuehl; his great-grandchildren: Dante Ellis and one on the way, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and beloved friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday November 13, 2024, from 11am-1pm at Hoffen Funeral Home, 220 W. Washington St., Millstadt, IL. Funeral services will follow at 1pm at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the family.
