Georgann L. Walker

Georgann Laverne Walker, nee Douglas, 75, of Swansea, IL passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 31, 2024. Georgann was born on October 27, 1949, in East St. Louis, IL to Clifford and Verna Lou (Krause) Douglas and her parents precede her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers: Clifford Douglas and Stephen Douglas, her friend and partner of over 30 years, Richard Lovelace.

Georgann grew up in East St. Louis, IL. After meeting her first husband, Georgann traveled with him during his Naval service and spent time in Jacksonville, FL and San Diego, CA before settling back in Illinois. Georgann then raised her children and worked tirelessly as a homemaker. In her spare time, she found great satisfaction in volunteering for area literacy programs and for the Lupus Foundation. 

Georgann was an avid reader and loved to crochet. She also enjoyed baking and sharing her delicious treats. For a fun outing, she loved to attend the Muny with her close friends. She will be remembered as a faithful, loving friend who was an excellent listener. In her later years, Georgann took great pride in her relationship with her great-grandchildren. She found a renewed sense of independence as a woman and profound happiness over the last several years. Georgann blessed the lives of many people, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving are her children: Jo Ann Schwartz of Bourbon, MO and Janis S. La Velle of Irondale, AL, her cousin, George “Ketter” Meyer of Quincy, IL, her grandchildren: Krystal (Devin) Barnes, Veronica Young and Joshua (Wren) Walker, 3 great-grandchildren and her lifelong best friends: Tom Hoffmann, Barb and Artie Scott, Sharon Ogden, Patty Stover and Susie Wilburn.

A celebration of Georgann’s life will be held in the spring.
