Eugene J. Boron, 76, of Millstadt, IL passed away peacefully on Saturday May 15, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL, with his loving family by his side. Eugene was born in East St. Louis, IL on July 6, 1944 to Andrew and Harriett Boron, nee Kula.

Eugene graduated from Assumption High School in East St. Louis, IL in 1962. He was an honor roll student, graduating second in his class and earning a scholarship to St. Mary’s University. He was also a proud Pioneer football player while at Assumption High, constantly noting that they actually won the game against East Side his senior year because the last touchdown happened after time ran out. Upon graduation, he went on to St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas where he studied accounting. He was a proud member of the Sigma Beta Chi fraternity’s flag football team, several honor societies and he was nominated for Who’s Who. He graduated suma cum laude from St. Mary’s University in 1966, with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

After working for only a few months, Eugene was drafted during the Vietnam War Era and proudly served his country with the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant in Germany. Upon completing his service honorably, he returned home in 1970 and began working for Peat, Marwick Consulting (KPMG) services as a professional accountant, specializing in Medicare and third party reimbursement for healthcare providers. Eugene would work for many hospitals during his career before founding his own firm in the 1990’s, ultimately retiring in 2010.

Eugene was a devoted husband and father who loved playing ball with his boys and attending their games when they were young. An avid sports fan, Eugene loved following the Dodgers, East St. Louis Flyers, Althoff Crusaders, the Fighting Illini and the Boston Celtics. Most of all, Eugene enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Theresa Boron, his brothers Andrew Boron and Tony Boron and his sisters Sylvia Schaeffer, Agnes Schaefer and Wilma Boron.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Mary Sue Boron, nee Welsh whom he married on September 29, 1972 at St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, IL; his sons Eddie (Angela) Boron of Las Vegas, Nevada and Joe (Courtney) Boron of Millstadt, IL.
