Elvera Rose Burns

Elvera Rose Burns, nee Piat, 95 of Millstadt, Illinois passed away peacefully on Monday February 1, 2021. She was born on May 22, 1925 in East St. Louis, Illinois to Alexander and Rose Piat and they precede her in death. Elvera was also preceded in death by her former husband, Delbert Burns, Sr. and her brother, Edgar Piat.

Elvera began her career as a laboratory technician assisting in the war effort during World War II. Following the end of the war, she continued working in chemical manufacturing until her retirement. In her free time, she loved gardening, especially growing flowers, and was a fantastic cook. She also loved to travel, having taken her family on many trips, most notable was a European tour. Elvera was a dedicated volunteer for many years reading for the blind at Mind’s Eye Radio on the campus of The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, Illinois. She was also a member of St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, Illinois. Elvera was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Delbert Burns, Jr. of Millstadt, Illinois, her daughter, Linda Paisley of O’Fallon, Missouri, her grandson, Drayton Paisley of St. Charles, Missouri and three great-granddaughters: Adrianna, Grace Anne and Julianna Paisley.

Elvera will be laid to rest at Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Belleville, Illinois on Wednesday February 3, 2021 at 11:00am with the Monsignor Marvin Volk officiating.
