Edna G. Moore
Edna G. Moore of Belleville, Illinois, formerly of Collinsville, Illinois, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Dammert Geriatric Center at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, Illinois, having attained the age of 96 years, 7 months and 15 days.
Born on October 19, 1916 in Hamel Township, Illinois, she was the daughter of William J. and Alma Grainey, nee Vollrath. She was united in marriage to John Malcolm Moore on June 15, 1957 in East St. Louis, Illinois and he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Moore was a teacher in District 189 for 37 years, having taught at the Wilson, Manner and Clark Junior High Schools, retiring in 1972. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, Illinois, received the 10 year service award from the St. Louis Post Dispatch sponsored by the Greater St. Louis Science Fair, was past President of the St. Clair Womans Club, was active in Chaper ML of the PEO Sisterhood, past President of the Altar and Rosary Society of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary Council #592, Ladies Ancient Order of the Hibernians, Collinsville BPW since 1968, active in Church Women United, chaired the 1989 State Assembly, past President of Collinsville Womans Club, past President of the American Association of University Women and honored in 1989 with their recognition award of 'Women Who Care'. Mrs. Moore, directly or indirectly, has guided women through her teaching and community involvement to further the interests of all women.
Preceding her in death besides her husband, John Malcolm Moore were her parents, her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Levi Ducharme, her maternal grandparents, Jacob and Ottilie (Hoberg) Vollrath and her paternal grandparents, Michael and Mary A. (Mannion) Grainey.
Surviving are her cousins, Jeanne Giese of Florissant, Missouri, Nancy Thomas of Palo Alto, California, Martha Lindsay of St. Petersburg, Florida, Linda Kalai of Sunnyvale, California, Patricia Proctor of Los Altos, California, Geoffrey Hopwood of Haslett, Michigan, Beth Reed of Mendocino, California, Winifred Mollman of Columbus, Indiana and Mary Beth Decker of Ballwin, Missouri and her sister-in-law, Helen Moore of Friendship Village in St. Louis, Missouri.
Friends may call on Monday, June 10, 2013 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:15 A.M. at the Chapel of the Apartment Community of the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows. Memorials may be made to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, Illinois.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 10, 2013 at 11:15 A.M. at the Chapel of the Apartment Community with Father Tom Hayes officiating. Interment will follow on Monday afternoon in the Marine City Cemetery in Marine, Illinois.
The Creason Funeral Home in Millstadt, Illinois is in charge of arrangements.
