Dwayne Hopkins, 59, of Bridgeton, MO, entered into rest surrounded by his family on Friday, February 3, 2023. Dwayne was born on July 6, 1963, in Chicago, IL, to Donald Hopkins, Sr, and LaVon LaGrone, nee Stewart, and his father precedes him in death. Dwayne is also preceded in death by his brother, Donald Hopkins, Jr, his sister Patricia Hopson, mother-in-law Cora Wilson, and father-in-law, James Ishman.
Dwayne proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from September 6, 1984, to September 29, 1995. He married his beloved wife and best friend, Tamara Hopkins, nee Wilson, on January 18, 2002, in Belleville, IL and she survives him. When Dwayne was not spending time with his dear wife, children, and grandchildren, he could be found working his hardest to provide for them; he is described as a “workaholic” but always made time to enjoy himself. Dwayne took great pride in his cooking skills, whipping up everything from delicious barbeque to fried bologna sandwiches with extra mayonnaise. He enjoyed going to the gun range and sharing funny TikTok videos. His children and grandkids often coerced him into using filter effects to take funny photos of them together. One of his favorite genres of music was jazz and he would catch live shows with his daughters. He loved to joke around and “just enjoy life," especially if that could be on a sunny Florida beach. Friends and family would describe him as a jokester, a giving soul, a provider, and above all else, a family man.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Tamara Hopkins; his children, Latesha Marie Hopkins, Dominic Lamar Hopkins, Kalyx E. Wilson, Jarvis Wilson, Chantal D. Casey (Elliott), Frederick L. Jackson, and Chassidy A. Jackson; his siblings, Donece Lewis (Patrick), Darrell Hopkins (Charlotte), Gail James, Naomi Hopkins, Charles LaGrone (Anita), and best friend, Wilbur McDew (Demetrius); his grandchildren, Maryae Booker, Surayyah Davs, Mariah Booker, Jardyn Walker, Kyngston Patrick, Adrien Jackson, Marshaun Booker, and baby Jackson on the way.
Per his wishes, Dwayne will be cremated, and a service is planned for February 17, 2023 at 10am, with visitation starting at 9am. Inurnment is set to take place on Friday, February 17, 2023, at 1:00pm at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Road, St Louis MO.
In honor of Dwayne’s love for the Green Bay Packers, the family asks that flowers follow the team’s color scheme of green, yellow, and white. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
