Ellis Grove, IL

Dale Arthur Davitz, 85, of Ellis Grove, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 1:45am. Born to Kenneth and Ethel (Caudle) Davitz on February 20, 1939, Dales was a cherished member of his community and a devoted family man.

Dale married Joyce Ann (Harris) Davitz on June 26, 1959, and together they raised 5 sons. Dale was a proud laborer with Local #459 in Belleville, IL, where he dedicated many years to his work. His passion for demolition led him to notable projects, including the demolition of the old Kaskaskia Island bridge. He continued this legacy with his grandson Ricky, running Davitz Demolition with passion.

An avid gun enthusiast, collector, and hunter, Dale’s skills were widely recognized. He, along with his brother Kerm, was part of the 4-person pistol team representing Menard Penitentiary for the state of Illinois. Dale’s interests extended beyond his professional life; he enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and taking side-by-side rides. He was known for his engaging stories and his joy in spending time with friends and family.

Dale’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by five sons: Richard (Deborah) Davitz, of Red Bud, IL, Micky Lee (Lauren) Davitz of Chester, IL, Jeff (Donna) Davitz of Ellis Grove, IL, Jerry (Tereasa) Davitz of Rockwood, IL, and Scott (Torrie) Davitz of Chester, IL. He is also survived by his sister, Dorris Strong of Ellis Grove, IL; 18 grandchildren: Ricky, Tyler, Kourtney, Matthew, Nathan, Randi, Holly, Seth, Alyssa, Kacie, Jeffrey, Joshua, Paige, Brittany, Bailey, Emilee, Kayla, and Raven; and 28 great-grandchildren, with another expected later this year.

In addition to his immediate family, Dale is survived by numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, his parents, his brother Kermith Davitz, his brother-in-law Gordon Strong, and his father and mother-in-law Wesley and Ladora Harris.

Dale will be remembered for his contributions to his community and his family. A private family service will be held to honor his life and legacy. The family extends their heartfelt thanks for the support and kindness during this difficult time.

Hoffen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
