Clara 'Sue' Layton



Clara 'Sue' Layton of St. Louis passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at DeGreef Hospice Center at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 15 days.

Born on May 26, 1929 in Wilson, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Samuel A. and Grace (Russell) Gist.
Mrs. Layton was a waitress.

Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, Willis 'Bud' (Evelyn) Gist.

Left to mourn her passing are her children, Sheila (Garry) Gonzalez of Arnold, Missouri, Terrance Layton of Hermann, Missouri and Brenda (Leonard) Bowling of Pevely, Missouri; three brothers, Sam (Laverne) Gist, Jr., Charles (Denise) Gist, both of Florida and Bill (Joan) Gist of Louisiana; six grandchildren, Samantha Gonzales of Kirkwood, Missouri, Gerad (Tamara) Gonzalez of Fenton, Missouri, Terra Grace Layton of Bay, Missouri, Joseph Palmier, Shane Staples and Brandon Staples all of St. Louis; two great-grandchildren, Jared and Jack Gonzalez, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at Southern Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Senack officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Cemetery in St. Louis.

Friends may call at Southern Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and on Thursday, October 16, 2008 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Memorials may be made to DeGreef Hospice Center and will be received at the funeral home.
