Christine “Christy” Meehan, nee Hyatt, 62, of Smithton, IL passed away on Wednesday February 9, 2022. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert “Rob” Hyatt. Christy was born to Gene and JoAnn (nee Weissert) Hyatt on August 7, 1959, at St. Mary’s Hospital in East St. Louis, IL, and they survive her. She met her husband, Robert “Bob” Meehan during their seventh grade year at Our Lady of Assumption in Fairview Heights, IL, where they were later married on October 3, 1980.
Upon graduating high school, Christy worked at Famous Barr. Christy and Bob later welcomed four beautiful children into the world-Bobby Meehan, Megan Meehan, Michael (Jenifer) Meehan and Molly (Alan) Klein, and they survive her. Christy devoted her time to her children and stayed at home to raise them, starting her own cleaning business and an at-home daycare where she cared for many other children throughout the years. When her children went on to start school, Christy began working as a legal secretary for Rosen Law Firm and later as a legal secretary and office manager for the Gavin Law Firm. Christy is also survived by her grandchildren, Robby and Raymond Meehan, Jessica Willhite, Hayden and Kaylei Priest, Leo and Clara Klein; her siblings, Steven (Davina) Hyatt, Pete (Lori) Hyatt, Cynthia Hyatt Warren (Gregg), Kathy (Danny) Kurowski, Doug Hyatt, Clara (Bill) Harrison, Eddie Hyatt, Keri (Jeremy) Ward; parents-in-law, Bob Sr. and Marcia Meehan; her sisters-in-law, Donna Meehan and Traci (Robert “Rob”) Goldschmidt; brother-in-law, Brian (Ellen) Meehan; as well as 28 wonderful nieces and nephews. When she was not spending time with her beloved family, Christy enjoyed golfing, fishing, cooking, and gardening. Per Christy’s wishes, she will be cremated.
A memorial gathering at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Paderborn, IL on Saturday February 19, 2022 from 9am-11am. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Family Hospice of Belleville, IL.
