Celeste Dorothy Krausz, nee Boad, 92, of Waterloo, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2025, with family by her side. Celeste was born on June 8, 1932, in Summerfield, IL to William P. and Mary R. (Kehrer) Boad and they precede her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde C. Krausz, Jr. and her son, Stephen J. Krausz.
Celeste grew up in East St. Louis, IL and graduated from St. Teresa’s Academy. Her alma mater always held a special place in her heart, and she was proud to wear her St. Teresa’s class ring. She met her beloved husband, Clyde, on a blind date and they were married on January 19, 1952, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in East St. Louis, IL. Celeste dedicated her life to others as a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Paderborn, IL, arriving in 1962. When they pursued life on the farm, Clyde said, “The farm is the place to raise our family!” Clyde started the Turnabouts band in 1963, and Celeste taught her children how to dance while he played the accordion.
Celeste was an Avon salesperson and worked for 25 years as a daycare provider in her home. She was an active member of the Floraville Home Extension for 62 years. Celeste had many interests like traveling the world and belly-dancing in her younger years. She had a servant’s heart and volunteered her time in many organizations including St. Michael’s Council of Catholic Women, Red Bud Regional Hospital, St. Clair County Jail Ministry and the Fox Theatre.
In her spare time, Celeste enjoyed dancing, playing pinochle, and entertaining her friends at the Millstadt Senior Center. She cherished her family most of all and will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend of many.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Marilyn (Gary) Cupples, Gerald (Michelle) Krausz, Tom (Kay) Krausz, Ron (Linda) Krausz and Teresa (Russ) Braunseis; her sisters, Wilma Pidgeon, Willetta Shanklin, her sister-in-law, Jeanette Surmeier; her eleven grandchildren: Kim (Jamie) Katz, Karen (Joe) Urnise, Jack Cupples, Micah Krausz, Amanda (Robbie) Thomas, Daryl Brown, Kelsey Krausz, Kristin (Clay) Iler, Paige (Alex) Pellmann, Sam Braunseis and Hannah Braunseis; her ten great-grandchildren: Zoe Katz, Aidan Katz, Emerson Katz, Hazel Urnise, Patrick Urnise, Josie Thomas, Olivia Iler, Isabelle Iler, Tessa Pellmann and Oliver Pellmann in addition to many nieces, nephews, extended family and beloved friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 9:00am to 12:00pm, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 4576 Buss Branch Rd., Paderborn, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00pm with Celebrants, Fr. Jim Voelker, Fr. Clyde Grogan, and Fr. Carl Scherrer. Celeste will be laid to rest in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Paderborn, IL.
Memorial contributions in memory of Celeste D. Krausz may be made to Millstadt Senior Center or St. Michael’s Catholic Church and will be received at the church.
