Cherry Nell Generous

Cherry Nell Generous, nee McClellan, 73, of Belleville, IL passed away surrounded by her family on March 16, 2023 at Belleville Memorial Hospital. She was born in Columbia, IL on October 20, 1949 to Richard and Velma, nee Cates, McClellan, and they precede her in death. Cherry is also preceded in death by her brother, Richard McClellan, Jr., her father-in-law, Thomas Generous, and her mother-in-law, Margaret Generous.

Cherry attended college and earned her CET certificate to become an EKG technician, spending 51 years in her position at Belleville Memorial Hospital. She and her husband, Raymond Generous, were married in Belleville, IL on June 3, 1971 and welcomed two beautiful children—Amanda Lindsey Generous and Raymond “Ray” John Generous. Cherry was known to be a kind, giving person, and made it a priority to ensure others were taken care of; she often donated to numerous causes such as schools for indigenous children, wildlife rehabilitation and conservation efforts, animal shelters, and children’s hospitals. In her free time, Cherry enjoyed gardening, doing crossword puzzles, completing craft projects, cooking, shopping, and reading books of every genre. Her daughter will cherish memories of the two of them making t-shirts; her husband and her children will always remember Cherry’s homemade pot roasts, complete with carrots and potatoes.

Left to cherish Cherry’s memory is her husband of 51 years, Raymond Generous, her daughter, Amanda Lindsey Generous, her son, Raymond “Ray” John Generous (Jennifer Wendell), her grandchildren, Alise Generous, Aiden Generous, and Aubrey Generous, in addition to many dear friends, extended family members, and colleagues.
